The Clock has Turned

I sit here, in Chicago at 16:37, wondering how in the world I boarded a flight SIXTEEN hours ago when it was only this morning!! I’m sleepy and I don’t like this disoriented feeling. It’s interesting, because so many people have said that going back to the United States is a lot easier than the jetlag you get going to Europe. If you refer back to my earlier blogs, I was so happy about the fact that I wasn’t experiencing jetlag. I guess it’s the opposite for me.

The flight was actually really easy! I am not a fan of flying, but the flight was very empty, so I had four seats to myself and was able to lay down and sleep as if I was on a bed! I slept for most of the flight and worked on my final paper when I woke up. It was quick!!

To reflect on my trip, there were actually a lot of negatives about it that I haven’t mentioned–maybe I’ll go back later and talk about them. There also were a lot of positives. That being said, I would say it was a neutral experience. Would I go back to Sweden? In a heartbeat. I want to live there. Would I go on the same class trip with the same people and professors? Absolutely not.

It’s sad when human beings taint such a beautiful experience.

The food and the culture was by far my favorite. The selection of vegan food was amazing EVERYWHERE and more than I ever could have dreamed. As far as the culture, I love everything about Sweden. I love how environmentally conscious everyone is. Everywhere you go composts and uses less water. The public transportation is immaculate. If I moved there, I would never want to own a car. I love how dog-friendly it is. Everyone is always walking their dogs and they’re pretty much welcome everywhere; in the tram, in public, etc. Sometimes people tie them up outside so they can go into stores and the dogs sit there so calmly because they’re so used to the city life. Everyone I talked to was so nice to me, being a foreigner. Everywhere is just so clean and calm and everyone is so quiet and keeps to themselves. It’s almost too good to be true.

I miss it already and I can’t wait for the day that I go back. For years, the one place I always wanted to travel to was Sweden and I can finally say that I’ve accomplished one of my life goals.

Thank you for coming along on this journey of mine.

Until next time, Sverige.
