Day 13 – Coming to an End

Today was our last day in Sweden; we leave very early tomorrow morning. We started the day off by going curling! This involved a commute by ferry since the curling place is on an island, Hisingen.

Unfortunately, this morning I woke up with a migraine and my vertigo was kicking in (where everything spins for no reason) so I wasn’t very comfortable on the ice and didn’t really play. Everyone else says they had a great time, though. Personally, I enjoyed talking to the guy who works there are more than I think I would have enjoyed curling. He was really nice and he has a cat named Sally–she’s 19.

After curling, a bunch of us went back to the hostel to change because our feet were wet from the rain. As a small group, we went to the mall, Nordstan. We had McDonald’s (like I said, I was trying to stock up before returning) and I had another McVegan! Our group split into two and my group went souvenir shopping. I got my brother a necklace, my sister a necklace and chocolate, my middle brother a snow globe with a tram in it (because he likes trains), I got my grandma a chocolate bar and a magnet, and I got a bunch of chocolate for other people. I got myself a magnet and a deck of cards with the Swedish flag. I also got some keychains for people, specifically one coworker and a nice lady that goes to the same coffee shop as I do. Additionally, I got one of my professors a notebook. I thought a notebook seemed to generic, but the cover of it has literally EVERYTHING I experienced during my time in Gothenburg. A lot of the souvenirs had moose, which I LOVE, but we were in urban Sweden–not the forests. I didn’t see any moose there, so it was important to me that I give people accurate souvenirs.

Our dinner for the night was at Heaven 23, a four-star restaurant that was hyped up since before we came to Sweden, specifically for the shrimp sandwich. It was very aesthetically pleasing (the restaurant, not the shrimp), but unfortunately gave me food poisoning so I would not recommend, but that’s just me. Everyone I talked to about the food also was not a fan. They said the sandwich had too much mayonnaise, they didn’t like that the shrimp was cold and many of them were not a fan of the caviar. I had my own vegan plate that was pretty much artichokes and mushrooms–again, I would not recommend.

I will say that food poisoning is not the ideal way: to end a trip or: to fly for 9 hours with.
